Wild Turkeys

It's almost been nine months since I moved to Northern Washington. I see the wild turkeys a lot lately. Mostly hanging out next to the road in groups of ten, pecking gravel out of the snow to fill their gizzards. No matter how many times I see these birds it is still novel. On my way to town there were some in the middle of the road and couldn't decide if they should go left or right. They seemed to gaze at each other, waiting for someone to make the first move, and since no one did, they kept running down the road in front of me. One veered right, one went left, and then the three still in the middle of the road took flight. If they don't get their act together, they are going to be roadkill.
